If you’re a tourist visiting our beautiful accommodation for the first time, you might be wondering about the history of the building.
Interestingly, we haven’t always had our doors open to adventure seeking tourists keen to explore everything we have to offer down here in Creetown and Dumfries and Galloway.
When it first opened its doors, The Barholm Enterprise Centre was known to Creetown locals as ‘The Ponda’.
Formerly a pub, The Barholm Arms closed its doors permanently in 2011. Unfortunately, the building sat unused for almost a decade and had fallen into a derelict state.
Obviously no one likes when there’s an unused building going to waste. Especially not somewhere as picturesque and charming Creetown. The building was becoming an eyesore and something needed to be done.
After several years in a poor condition, The Creetown Initiative purchased the building and was able to secure an incredible £890,000 from the National Lottery to redevelop the building.
The plans were for the former pub to be transformed into an Enterprise Centre. The centre would provide jobs for local people, volunteering opportunities, income for community groups and business opportunities for local artists. Not only that, but the centre would also help to increase the number of tourists into Creetown.
Creetown Enterprise Centre is comprised of Barholm Accommodation, Barholm Cycle Hire, Barholm Community Shop and Barholm Arts and Crafts Co-operative.
The Barholm Centre offers a warm, welcoming and friendly place to stay in the Creetown area. Our private rooms offer comfortable options for individuals and groups, with each room benefitting from an en-suite bathroom and a host of other amenities.
Our cosy, award-winning accommodation is the perfect place to use as a base to explore Dumfries & Galloway. The prime location gives guests easy access to all of the superb cycling, walking, hiking, fishing and coastal activities on offer in the area.
We welcome you to visit and experience everything we have to offer.
